The driving in Doha is world famous, it will only take a small amount of research for anyone moving to Qatar to discover the roads are somewhat confusing. One of the most confusing elements is converting your U.K. driving licence to a Qatari driving licence.
There are many sources of information about how to do this, but we believe this to be the most current (16th November) as we have just gone through the process of converting a UK driving licence into a Qatari licence.
This will change, and so please do let us know in the comments if you have a different experience.
Its easy if you know how! Just make sure you have all the right info/ copies and docs.
Step 1: Your sponsor needs to approve you to have a licence application on Matrash 2.
Step 2: Have your eyes tested by an approved opticians (Most malls have an optician)
Step 3: Get a photocopy of your QID
Step 4: Get Passport pictures done (with blue background)
Step 5: Get a photocopy of your UK Driving licence
Step 6: Go to Medinat Khalifa Traffic department HQ
Step 7: Go to see the Captain (for new licences) at desk 6 (They are only there between 6.30 and 12.30)
Step 8: Go to main desks and pay the nice lady QR 250
Step 9: Receive licence
If you forget to copy something there is a small photocopy shop at the rear of the Traffic Department where for QR1 you can make copies.
